Part of a broader Seven Wonders series, this piece commemorates the tomb built by Artemisia II for her husband Mausolus, satrap of Caria, following his death in 353 BC — a structure so celebrated in antiquity that it gave the English language the word "mausoleum." The coin was issued posthumously under Elizabeth II's effigy, placing it in the brief but consequential window of issues authorized before her death in September 2022 but struck after it.
