| Obverse description | The crowned shield of Niue's coat of arms occupies the central field, surmounted by a St. Edward's Crown and flanked on either side by two silver fern fronds, emblematic of the island's New Zealand association. The quartered shield displays the Southern Cross stars in the first quarter, a ship under sail and a hut in the second and third quarters respectively, and crossed hammer and pick in the fourth. The legend NIUE appears along the upper left rim and the date 2001 along the upper right rim, both in incuse lettering within the polished proof field. |
