The composition depicts the draped Virgin Mary seated, her head inclined downward in sorrowful contemplation, cradling the lifeless body of Christ across her lap, both figures rendered with meticulous anatomical and drapery detail faithful to the original work housed in St. Peter's Basilica, Vatican City. The inscription MICHELANGELO is engraved vertically along the left margin of the field, while Pietà appears vertically in italic lettering along the upper right margin. |
