Fiji has issued a long series of small-format gold pieces under royal portrait authority, most with no monetary function whatsoever — collector products sold at significant premium over melt. This Nefertiti piece is one of dozens from that program, its Fijian denomination purely nominal.
Nefertiti's bust, excavated by Ludwig Borchardt at Amarna in 1912, remains in Berlin's Neues Museum despite decades of Egyptian repatriation requests. That ongoing dispute gives the subject a relevance the issuing authority certainly did not intend.
