Additional information

Solomon Islands launched this Marine Life Protection series in the early 2000s partly as a revenue mechanism — small-format gold issues sold directly to collectors generate hard currency without the logistical overhead of circulating coinage. At 1.24 g of .999 gold, these were struck to the 1/25 oz specification that briefly found favor among Pacific island issuers competing for the collector bullion market alongside better-known Fijian and Niuean releases.
