The Junkanoo is a Bahamian street parade held on Boxing Day and New Year's Day, rooted in the period of enslavement when those were among the few days the enslaved population was permitted to celebrate freely. The tradition survived emancipation and became the most significant cultural event in the Bahamian calendar.
