Obverse description The Arms of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas occupy the central field, featuring a shield divided into two quarters: the upper quarter displays a rising sun over water with a ship under sail, and the lower quarter bears a flamingo. The shield is supported to the left by a swordfish and to the right by a flamingo standing on a grassy mount, with an elaborate crest of a conch shell surmounted by a blue marlin above a helm. Two scrolled ribbons below bear the national mottos FORWARD TOGETHER and UPWARD ONWARD. The legend COMMONWEALTH OF THE BAHAMAS arcs along the upper periphery in raised Latin characters, with the date 2016 prominently displayed at the base of the field.
