The denomination TEN DOLLARS arcs across the upper field, while the identification SIR MILO B. BUTLER / GOVERNOR GENERAL is inscribed in two lines beneath the portrait. The commemorative legend FIRST ANNIVERSARY OF INDEPENDENCE · 10 JULY 1973 runs along the left and right periphery respectively. A beaded border frames the entire design.
