Reverse description A bold, high-relief portrait bust of Sir Milo B. Butler, first Governor-General of the independent Bahamas, faces slightly to the right in three-quarter view, rendered in a naturalistic medallic style by engraver F. Gasparro. The denomination TEN DOLLARS arcs across the upper field, while the identification SIR MILO B. BUTLER / GOVERNOR GENERAL is inscribed in two lines beneath the portrait. The commemorative legend FIRST ANNIVERSARY OF INDEPENDENCE · 10 JULY 1973 runs along the left and right periphery respectively. A beaded border frames the entire design.
