The Eastern Caribbean Central Bank issues currency on behalf of eight member states — Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Anguilla, and Montserrat — making attribution of any single piece to a specific territory genuinely ambiguous. This 2021 issue is one of the later gold strikes produced under Elizabeth II before her death in September 2022, part of a bullion program that has run alongside the ECCB's circulating coinage since the 1980s.
The magnificent frigatebird has served as the national bird of Antigua and Barbuda since independence in 1981.
