| Beschrijving keerzijde | Two large overlapping maple leaves rendered in high relief, their stems converging toward the lower center of the coin, occupying the majority of the reverse field. The design, engraved by Konrad Wachelko, captures the intricate venation and lobed contours of the leaves with striking naturalistic detail. The legend CANADA arcs across the upper field, while the inscription FINE GOLD 1/4 OZ OR PUR curves along the lower periphery. The purity designation 9999 appears in the right field, accompanied by the mint mark CD at lower left. |

The "Gold Maple Leaf" fractional program expanded aggressively in the early 2010s as the RCM leaned into the investment bullion market dominated by competitors like the U.S. Gold Eagle and South African Krugerrand. Canada's .9999 fineness specification — four nines rather than the more common three — was a deliberate commercial differentiator, first achieved on the standard one-ounce Maple Leaf in 1982 and eventually extended across the fractional range.
The 2013 issue also benefited from the RCM's radial line security feature introduced to the Maple Leaf series beginning that same year, added specifically in response to counterfeiting concerns that had emerged in Asian markets.
