Cook Islands has been one of the most prolific issuers of legal-tender collector coins since the 1970s, a revenue strategy that accelerated sharply in the 2000s through licensing arrangements with European minting houses — primarily B.H. Mayer's Kunstprägeanstalt in Munich and the Coin Invest Trust in Liechtenstein. This piece is a product of that pipeline. The Eiffel Tower series draws on France's 1889 Exposition Universelle, for which Gustave Eiffel's structure was built as the entrance arch, originally intended for demolition after 20 years.
