Niue's arrangement with the New Zealand Mint has made it one of the Pacific's most prolific issuing authorities for legal-tender bullion and collector coinage — a quirk of the 1974 Niue Constitution Act, which granted the island self-governance under free association with New Zealand while preserving its right to issue its own currency.
