Drachenburg Castle was built between 1882 and 1884 near Königswinter on the Rhine — not as an aristocratic seat, but as a personal vanity project funded by stockbroker Baron Stephan von Sarter, who died before its completion. It changed hands repeatedly through the 20th century, fell into disrepair under various owners including a Nazi party school, and was eventually purchased by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia in 1989. The Solomon Islands issued this piece under the micro-gold bullion format that proliferated in the 2010s and 2020s, produced almost entirely for the collector market with no meaningful circulation life anticipated.
