Obverse description The Barbados national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a shield charged with two red-flowered Pride of Barbados plants, supported on the dexter by a dolphin fish and on the sinister by a pelican, with a bearded fig tree issuing from the base. Above the shield rises a helmet with mantling, surmounted by an arm holding two crossed pieces of sugarcane. A ribbon below bears the national motto PRIDE AND INDUSTRY in raised Latin lettering. The date 1984 is divided to either side of the crest, flanked by trident symbols, with the country name BARBADOS inscribed in large curved letters along the lower periphery, all within a beaded border.
