| Obverse description | The quartered coat of arms of Niue occupies the central field, surmounted by a St. Edward's Crown. The shield displays four quarters featuring the Southern Cross stars, three sailing vessels, a native figure, a shell, and crossed hammer and pick, emblematic of the island's heritage. The arms are flanked on either side by sprigs of silver fern, rendered in fine detail. Niue's early 1990s commemorative program was largely a licensing exercise — the island nation had no Olympic tradition to speak of, and these silver issues were produced for the collector market through arrangements with foreign minting agencies. The disc thrower subject connects to the 1992 Barcelona Games cycle, during which dozens of small sovereign issuers flooded the market with similar pieces.
KM#56 is one of several Olympic-themed Niue issues from this period sharing the same basic production parameters, making individual die varieties difficult to attribute without specialist reference.
