| 正面铭文 | NIUE 1997 |
| 背面描述 | A forward-facing effigy of Diana, Princess of Wales, is depicted in high relief at the centre of the field, portraying her with short hair and a warm smile, wearing a v-neck garment and drop earrings. The surrounding legend, rendered in an elegant italic script, reads IN MEMORIAM DIANA - THE PEOPLE'S PRINCESS along the upper arc, with the dates 1961-1997 along the left. The denomination $10 appears at the base of the design, flanked by two decorative rose motifs symbolising Diana's association with the English rose. |

Struck within weeks of Diana's death on 31 August 1997, this Niuean issue was one of dozens rushed to market by small Pacific and Caribbean sovereign minting programs that licensed the right to produce legal-tender commemoratives. Niue had been doing this since the late 1980s, farming out designs to outside mints and keeping the legal-tender status as the principal commodity. The "People's Princess" phrase itself came from Tony Blair's impromptu statement the morning after the crash in Paris.
