The Colossus of Rhodes — a bronze statue of the sun god Helios erected around 280 BC at the harbor entrance of Rhodes — stood for only 54 years before an earthquake toppled it circa 226 BC. It was never rebuilt. Everything known about its appearance comes from ancient texts; no contemporary depictions survive, meaning every modern reconstruction is educated guesswork dressed as iconography.
This piece is part of a broader Seven Wonders series issued by Solomon Islands, a Pacific microstate with no historical connection to the ancient Mediterranean world — a common arrangement where small sovereignties license their minting authority to bullion and novelty coin producers.
