Reverse description Facing bust of Charlemagne (Carolus Magnus) portrayed in the manner of a medieval sculptural effigy, wearing an ornate bejeweled crown and richly decorated quilted imperial armor adorned with heraldic eagles and fleur-de-lis motifs. His Carolingian monogram — the interlaced cipher KRS — is prominently displayed on his chest. Two historical coins are depicted flanking his portrait in the field: a Carolingian denier to the left showing an animal device, and a second medieval coin to the right. The legend CAROLOS MAGNVS arcs along the left border and IMP · DCCCXIV · MMXIV along the right, referencing 814 AD (the year of Charlemagne's death) and the issue year 2014 in Roman numerals. The engraver's signature ŠOPPL appears at the lower center.
