| Reverse description | Facing bust of Charlemagne (Carolus Magnus) portrayed in the manner of a medieval sculptural effigy, wearing an ornate bejeweled crown and richly decorated quilted imperial armor adorned with heraldic eagles and fleur-de-lis motifs. His Carolingian monogram — the interlaced cipher KRS — is prominently displayed on his chest. Two historical coins are depicted flanking his portrait in the field: a Carolingian denier to the left showing an animal device, and a second medieval coin to the right.
