Reverse description A diademed bust of a classical male athlete facing right, rendered in high relief in the Hellenistic style, occupies the central and right portion of the field. To the left, a circular ancient coin motif bearing a lion's head is depicted in relief. Across the lower field, a scene of a four-horse chariot race (quadriga) is rendered within an ornate laurel-branch frame, conveying the spirit of the ancient Olympic Games. The denomination '$10' appears within the lower frame, and the Pobjoy Mint mark 'PM' is visible at lower right. The legend 'XXVIII OLYMPIC GAMES' arcs along the upper periphery.

Additional information

The British Virgin Islands has no independent monetary authority and issues collector coins purely as a licensing revenue stream administered through the British Crown. This chariot-themed piece is part of a broader series produced during the early 2000s by the Pobjoy Mint under contract — a relationship that accounts for the unusually high volume of BVI commemorative issues relative to the territory's actual population of roughly 20,000.
