The Cayman Islands Monetary Authority replaced the Currency Board in 1997, and this C Series note was among the first issued under the new authority's name — a distinction that matters for dating purposes, since superficially similar B Series notes carry the Currency Board designation. The one-signature variety reflects a transitional administrative arrangement; later printings within the same C Series added a second signatory as the CIMA's governance structure settled.
De La Rue's involvement goes back to the earliest Caymanian notes, giving the territory's paper currency an unusually consistent production lineage for an issuer of this size.
