| Aanvullende informatie |
The Black-faced Spoonbill was estimated at fewer than 600 individuals surviving in the wild at the time this coin was issued, making it one of the most endangered waterbirds in Asia. Cook Islands leaned heavily on wildlife conservation themes for its bullion and collector programs around this period, partly as a revenue mechanism given the islands' limited domestic economy, and partly riding genuine international concern over Pacific Rim biodiversity loss following habitat destruction along the Yellow Sea migratory corridor.
