| Beschrijving voorzijde | The coat of arms of Saint Lucia occupies the central field, depicting a quartered shield bearing a Tudor rose and fleur-de-lis, surmounted by a plumed helmet and supported on either side by a Saint Lucia parrot (Amazona versicolor) with wings displayed. Three scroll ribbons below the shield bear the national motto in three parts: THE LAND, THE PEOPLE, and THE LIGHT. The country name SAINT LUCIA appears as an arc legend at the top of the field, and the denomination TEN DOLLARS is inscribed along the lower border. |

The Battle of the Saints, fought in April 1782 in the channel between Dominica and Guadeloupe, was a decisive British naval victory over the French fleet under de Grasse — and effectively ended French ambitions to retake the Caribbean colonies they had briefly held. Saint Lucia itself had changed hands twelve times between Britain and France before finally being ceded to Britain in 1814, making the choice of this particular battle a pointed piece of national commemoration.
The 1982 issue marks the bicentennial of the engagement, one of several Eastern Caribbean nations to release collector coinage on the anniversary.
