The Cayman Islands Currency Board was established in 1972, the year the islands obtained their own currency distinct from the Jamaican dollar — a separation that reflected both growing offshore financial activity and a deliberate policy of administrative distance from Jamaica. De La Rue's involvement with the series was consistent from the outset; the B series of 1991 continued that relationship without disruption.
The security thread on this issue is a plain embedded type, predating the windowed and demetallized threads De La Rue introduced more widely through the 1990s.
