Niue has issued licensed Star Wars coinage since the early 2010s under agreements with Lucasfilm, and this piece commemorates the duel depicted in the 2022 Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi — the first live-action revisit to the Anakin/Obi-Wan dynamic since Revenge of the Sith in 2005. The series' release and this coin's production were coordinated, making it one of the more deliberately timed entries in the New Zealand Mint's Star Wars bullion program.
