Pobjoy Mint, based in Sutton, Surrey, operated as a private mint producing coins under license for smaller territories — primarily British Crown Dependencies and Overseas Territories — rather than through any central bank mandate. The 90th birthday of Elizabeth II in April 2016 prompted a wave of commemorative issues across these jurisdictions, most struck to identical specifications and differing only in the issuing territory named on the coin.
Pobjoy ceased independent operations in 2018 when the business was acquired by the Worcestershire Medal Service.
