The Kookaburra series, running continuously since 1990, changes its reverse design annually — a deliberate strategy by the Perth Mint to drive collector demand through artificial scarcity of each individual year's design. The 10-dollar denomination in this series represents the 10 troy ounce tier, where premiums over spot tend to be steeper than the smaller sizes due to lower mintage ceilings and higher fabrication costs per unit.
The sixth portrait of Elizabeth II, by Jody Clark, was adopted by Australian coinage in 2019 following a phased Commonwealth rollout that began with UK issues in 2015.
