Beschrijving keerzijde A stylised rat rendered in an ornate, symmetrical design incorporating authentic Chinese decorative motifs, celebrating the Chinese Lunar New Year of the Rat. The composition is arranged within a balanced, formal layout with traditional scroll and floral elements framing the central figure. The legend YEAR OF THE RAT arcs around the design, accompanied by the date 2008. The overall aesthetic blends classical Chinese artistic conventions with contemporary coin design.

Aanvullende informatie

Australia's Lunar coin program, launched by the RAM in 1996, was modeled closely on the Perth Mint's own lunar series — a deliberate market decision that created two competing Australian sovereign issuers producing nearly identical themed product simultaneously. The RAM's gold proof variants from this run were struck in comparatively small numbers and sold primarily through subscription, with minimal secondary-market presence in the years immediately following release.

2008 marked the final year before the RAM quietly discontinued its Lunar series, ceding that collector space entirely to Perth.
