背面描述 A dynamic depiction of a prancing horse in high relief, shown in left profile with its mane and tail flowing freely, occupying the central field against a mirror-polished background. The Chinese character '馬' (Horse) appears in the lower left of the inner field, with the engraver's initials 'CL' to the right of the horse. The legend '5 oz .999 SILVER' is inscribed along the lower border of the inner circle, while a decorative border of stylised floral or snowflake motifs encircles the entire design.

Australia's lunar coin program, administered by the RAM, runs on a 12-year cycle tied to the Chinese zodiac — meaning the Horse design recurred in 2014 for the first time since 2002. The 155.5-gram specification places this squarely in the five-troy-ounce category, a format the RAM has used consistently for its premium lunar issues to satisfy both collector and bullion markets simultaneously.

The fourth portrait of Elizabeth II, by Ian Rank-Broadley, was adopted by the RAM in 1999 and remained current until her death in 2022.
