Fish and marine creatures are integrated into the swirling composition, which incorporates deep recessed black fields contrasting with the polished and frosted gold surfaces to create a striking two-tone effect. The denomination legends 'TEN DOLLARS' and 'TEKAU TĀRA' arc along the upper rim to either side, while 'TANGAROA' runs along the left rim and 'GUARDIAN OF THE OCEAN' is inscribed along the lower rim.
