Obverse description The fourth portrait effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, sculpted by Ian Rank-Broadley, occupies the copper-coloured central disc, depicted in right-facing profile wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara. The truncation of the bust bears the engraver's initials IRB. The surrounding silver (.999) ring carries the legend ELIZABETH II to the upper left and AUSTRALIA 1999 to the upper right, all in raised Latin characters against a polished field. The bimetallic construction creates a striking contrast between the copper-toned centre and the bright silver outer ring.
