Reverse description Central design depicting a stylised stingray rendered entirely in traditional Māori koru and rauponga scroll motifs, referencing the legend of Māui fishing up the North Island of New Zealand. The creature occupies the majority of the field and is engraved in satin relief against a background of diagonal tukutuku lattice pattern lines that fill the inner disk. A decorative inner border of repeating Māori geometric ornament frames the central field, separating it from the outer legend band. The denomination TEKAU TĀRA arcs along the upper border and TEN DOLLARS along the lower border, both in incuse lettering. The overall composition was designed by Dave Burke and exemplifies contemporary Māori artistic tradition applied to numismatic design.
