| 背面描述 | A highly detailed, high-relief depiction of an adult Little Spotted Kiwi (Apteryx owenii) standing amid native New Zealand ferns and ground foliage, with a chick nestled at its feet; both birds are selectively gold-gilded, creating a vivid contrast against the darkened proof silver field. The adult bird faces left with its long, distinctive bill angled downward toward the chick, which stands within a naturalistic setting of twigs and leaves rendered in meticulous engraved detail. The legend 'TEN DOLLARS' arcs across the upper border, while 'LITTLE SPOTTED KIWI Apteryx owenii' is inscribed along the lower border. |

New Zealand's little spotted kiwi (Apteryx owenii) is functionally extinct on the mainland, surviving only through managed island populations — most significantly on Kapiti Island, where a relocation program beginning in the 1890s preserved the species from the predator-driven collapse that eliminated it everywhere else. By the time this coin was struck, the total wild population had recovered to roughly 1,700 individuals, entirely the result of sustained conservation intervention over more than a century.
