| Beschrijving keerzijde | A highly detailed, naturalistic depiction of an Australian koala (Phascolarctos cinereus) clinging frontally to a eucalyptus branch, its claws gripping the textured bark with anatomical precision. The animal's thick, fluffy fur is rendered with exceptional fine engraving, creating a striking frosted relief against the mirror-polished field. The arc legend AUSTRALIAN KOALA appears in the upper field, while the commemorative date range 2007 - 2017 is inscribed along the lower border, marking the tenth anniversary of the series. The engraver's initials SB (Stuart Bowkett) appear at lower left of the central device, and the Perth Mint's P mintmark is situated to the right within the inner circle. |

Australia's silver Koala bullion series has run since 1988, with the Perth Mint changing the reverse design annually — a deliberate strategy to drive collector demand on top of pure bullion sales. The 2017 issue is no exception to that practice. At ten troy ounces, these are among the heavier pieces in the Koala program, and Perth's reputation for die quality at this size is genuinely earned; the mint invested heavily in large-format striking capacity during the early 2000s to compete directly with the Royal Canadian Mint's Kilo and ten-ounce programs.
Ian Rank-Broadley's fourth-generation effigy of Elizabeth II, used here, was adopted by the Perth Mint on Australian bullion coinage from 1999 and remained standard until replaced by Jody Clark's portrait in 2019.
