| 背面描述 | A highly detailed, naturalistic depiction of an Australian koala (Phascolarctos cinereus) clinging to and resting upon a eucalyptus branch, facing the viewer in three-quarter aspect. The animal's characteristic large tufted ears, prominent nose, and dense fur are rendered with fine engraving detail against a lightly textured background suggesting foliage. The Perth Mint's P mintmark appears to the left of the design, with the inscription 10oz 999 SILVER running vertically along the left field. The engraver's initials SB appear at the lower centre of the field. |

The Perth Mint's kilo silver Koala series, launched in 2008, was designed explicitly to compete with established bullion programs from the Royal Canadian Mint and the Austrian Mint at a moment when retail silver demand was surging in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis. Each annual release carries a new reverse design — a deliberate sales strategy that creates collector pressure on top of the base bullion premium, driving secondary market prices well above melt on earlier dates.
The 2009 issue was struck in the same year Perth recorded a dramatic expansion of its bullion output to meet international demand, particularly from Asian markets.
