Reverse description A finely detailed kookaburra (Dacelo novaeguineae) perched on a weathered tree stump, depicted with wings dramatically spread and head raised, facing left in a dynamic naturalistic pose. The bird's distinctive plumage is rendered in high relief with carefully engraved feather detail contrasting against the mirror-polished field. The legend AUSTRALIAN KOOKABURRA arcs along the upper border within a frosted annular band, while the inscription 2011 10oz 999 SILVER appears along the lower border. The Perth Mint's P mintmark is visible in the lower right field.

Additional information

The Australian Kookaburra series launched in 1990 as one of Perth Mint's first legally-issued bullion programs, and the 10-dollar, 10-troy-ounce format was introduced to capture institutional and high-net-worth collectors who wanted meaningful silver weight in a single coin. By 2011, the series had developed a collector following strong enough that annual design changes — mandatory for the kookaburra depiction each year — drove secondary market premiums well above melt on recent dates. Ian Rank-Broadley's fourth portrait of Elizabeth II, adopted by Australia in 1999, appears here in its mature run before Jody Clark's fifth portrait displaced it from 2019.
