Belize had only been an independent nation for two years when this note entered circulation — the Central Bank itself was established in 1982, making the P#44 series among the first issues produced under the new institutional framework. Thomas De La Rue handled the contract, as they had for the predecessor British Honduras issues, providing continuity in production even as the political arrangement changed entirely.
The watermark remains the primary security feature, modest by later standards but consistent with De La Rue's output for small-economy Caribbean issuers of the period.
