Additional information

Edwin Flack is one of Australian sporting history's more peculiar figures — he won gold in both the 800m and 1500m at the 1896 Athens Olympics, the first modern Games, despite being an amateur runner who happened to be in Europe on an accountancy placement. He also entered the marathon, collapsed near the finish, and had to be carried off the course by a Greek supporter. The Royal Australian Mint issued this coin as part of a centenary series anticipating the 1996 Atlanta Games.
