| Additional information |
This issue is part of a broader Pacific commemorative gold program produced in the early 2000s, when several Commonwealth island nations issued small-denomination .9999 fine gold pieces at the 1/10 oz and sub-1/10 oz tier to serve the collector bullion market rather than any domestic monetary need. Fiji's Reserve Bank authorized a number of such pieces during Elizabeth II's Golden Jubilee period, with 2002 being the jubilee year itself — fifty years since her accession on 6 February 1952.
