| Obverse description | The obverse bears the fourth definitive effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by engraver Susan Taylor, depicting the monarch in right-facing profile at approximately 77 years of age, bareheaded and uncrowned, wearing a necklace and drop earrings. The mature portrait is rendered with fine detail in the facial features and jewelry. The encircling legend reads ELIZABETH II D•G•REGINA, invoking the sovereign's regnal title by the grace of God. The effigy is set against a flat field with the legend arranged along the upper periphery in Latin script. |

| Reverse description | The reverse, designed by Canadian artist Donna Kriekle, presents an artistic allegory of the life cycle of the sugar maple (Acer saccharum) as a metaphor for familial generations. At the lower left, a winged samara (maple key) symbolises new life and the promise of the next generation, while a gracefully arching branch transitions through budding flowers and emerging young leaves toward the fully developed, deeply veined mature leaf. The composition culminates in the broad, autumnal elder leaf, whose turning colours evoke the passage of time. The artist's initials DK appear in the field, and the peripheral legend states CANADA 2016 10 DOLLARS in capital Latin lettering along the lower arc. |
