The Eastern Caribbean Central Bank, established in 1983 as the monetary authority for eight island territories, issued proof gold strikes only sporadically — this 2002 piece being among a small run produced for the collector market rather than any domestic circulation need. Edward III's connection to the Eastern Caribbean is purely dynastic: as king of England from 1327 to 1377, he never set eyes on the region, which wouldn't fall under British influence for another three centuries.
The .9166 fineness is standard 22-karat gold, the same alloy used for British sovereigns since 1817.
