| Beschrijving voorzijde | The coat of arms of the Republic of Liberia is prominently displayed in the center of the field, featuring a sailing ship and palm tree within a decorated shield. The date is split across the lower field, with '20' to the left and '02' to the right of the arms. The motto legend 'THE LOVE OF LIBERTY BROUGHT US HERE' arcs across the upper interior of the design on a ribbon. The outer legend 'REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA' runs along the upper rim, with a second inscription 'REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA' appearing on a banner below the shield. |

| Aanvullende informatie |
Liberia produced a long-running series of ECU-denominated collector coins through the 1990s and into the early 2000s, despite having no connection to the European Currency Unit whatsoever. The ECU itself had already been replaced by the euro in 1999, meaning this 2002 issue commemorates a currency that had legally ceased to exist three years prior. These pieces were struck by private minting firms and sold directly to collectors, never circulating in Liberia or anywhere else.
