Obverse description Right-facing crowned effigy of Queen Elizabeth II wearing the George IV State Diadem, with curled hair and pearl drop earring visible. The portrait, rendered in high relief against a polished field, is the Raphael Maklouf effigy used on Commonwealth coinage. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs across the upper field, with NIUE to the right and the date 1998 positioned along the lower right rim, all separated by small pellets.
