Issued in conjunction with the United Nations Decade for Women (1976–1985), this coin marks the close of a ten-year international initiative that culminated in the 1985 Nairobi World Conference. Liberia produced a number of commemorative silver issues during this period largely for the collector export market — domestic circulation of such pieces was never the intent.
