Additional information

Jamaica issued this piece as part of a broader Caribbean commemorative push surrounding the quincentenary buildup — the 1992 anniversary of Columbus's 1492 landfall attracted dozens of coin programs across the region through the late 1980s and early 1990s. The Bank of Jamaica was an early participant, releasing several denominations ahead of the anniversary proper.

KM#148a denotes the silver version; a base-metal counterpart exists under KM#148.
