| Obverse description | The obverse presents a highly sculptural, ultra-high-relief rendering of the rear view of a female Chinese guardian lion (Shi), depicted seated upon an ornately decorated plinth bearing traditional Chinese geometric fretwork and coin motifs. The lion's elaborately curled mane, rendered in meticulous detail, dominates the upper field, while the spine and haunches are modelled with exceptional three-dimensionality. To the left, an inset circular cartouche bears the Republic of Palau coat of arms surrounded by the legend REPUBLIC OF PALAU, with the inscriptions RAINBOW'S END and 10 Dollars beneath. The curved legends CHINESE GUARDIAN LIONS arc across the upper field and 2017 descends along the right border, all in raised Latin lettering. |

| Additional information |
Palau has issued collector silver under its own authority since 1992, leveraging a Compact of Free Association with the United States that leaves foreign and defense policy to Washington while granting Ngerulmud full control over domestic legislation — including the right to issue commemorative coinage that circulates nowhere and is intended for the international bullion-collector market from the outset. The guardian lion series draws on Chinese iconography specifically to target demand from Southeast Asian and Chinese diaspora collectors, a deliberate commercial strategy Palau has refined across dozens of themed releases.
