Beschrijving keerzijde A dynamic scene inspired by the Germanic epic the Nibelungenlied occupies the central field: an armoured warrior, helmeted and bearing a sword and shield, advances toward a rearing dragon coiled atop a hoard of treasure that includes a prominent golden ring and scattered artefacts. Puzzle-shaped pieces rendered in the lower left field evoke the thematic series context. The upper legend TREASURE OF THE NIBELUNGS arcs around the inner border, separated by a dotted inner circle, while the lower legend THE HISTORY OF GOLD is inscribed in bold relief across a recessed band at the base of the design.

Aanvullende informatie

The Nibelungenlied, the Middle High German epic on which this issue is themed, survives in thirty-seven manuscripts — more than almost any other medieval German text — yet its authorship remains entirely unknown. The poem was largely forgotten until Romantic-era nationalists elevated it as a German cultural cornerstone, a process that later gave it uncomfortable political resonances in the twentieth century.

Solomon Islands has no historical connection to the material whatsoever. The issuing authority is purely nominal, a common arrangement in the modern bullion collectibles market where small sovereign states license their minting rights to European distributors.
