One of a proliferating series of fractional gold issues licensed from the Hans Christian Andersen estate and struck for the collector market rather than any circulation purpose. The Solomon Islands has served as the nominal issuing authority for dozens of such pieces over the past two decades — a common arrangement in which a small sovereign nation licenses its monetary authority to a private mint, typically European, in exchange for a fee. The actual striking almost certainly occurred in facilities far removed from Honiara.
