Niue has served as a licensing jurisdiction for commemorative issues since the 1990s, effectively outsourcing its nominal coinage program to foreign mints and bullion dealers targeting collector markets. This piece is legal tender in Niue in the same technical sense that dozens of similar issues are — which is to say, entirely notionally.
