Beschrijving keerzijde Central field depicts a finely detailed naturalistic scene of two rowi (Ōkārito brown kiwi, Apteryx rowi) nesting within a hollow log burrow, framed by native New Zealand fern foliage in the background; the adult bird stands alert with its long slender bill raised, while the chick rests curled beside it. The denomination $10 appears in a circular cartouche overlapping the lower left of the central scene. The legend ROWI I ŌKĀRITO BROWN KIWI Apteryx rowi is inscribed around the lower portion of the inner border. The entire central composition is encircled by an ornate raised border of traditional Māori koru and scroll motifs (makaawhio heke), creating a decorative frame that references New Zealand's indigenous artistic heritage.

Aanvullende informatie

New Zealand's kiwi coinage has a long-standing minting relationship with the Royal Mint, but this 2025 issue marks only the second regnant portrait series since the accession of Charles III following Elizabeth II's death in September 2022. The "1st Portrait" designation matters here: the obverse effigy by Martin Jennings — the same sculptor behind the UK's circulating coinage portrait — will eventually be superseded, making first-portrait issues the earlier of what will likely be multiple definitional runs across the reign.
